Celebrating Financial Literacy Month with Idaho’s Banking Community
April marks a significant milestone in our shared mission to build stronger, financially savvy communities. Thanks to the official proclamation by Idaho State Treasurer Julie Ellsworth—and the collaborative efforts of the Idaho Department of Finance (IDOF) and the Idaho Financial Literacy Coalition (IFLC)—April is once again recognized as Financial Literacy Month in the Gem State.
The Idaho Bankers Association is proud to amplify this message and encourage all our member banks to join the celebration. It’s not just about raising awareness—it’s about taking action. That’s why we’re reminding our banking professionals about an incredible opportunity to get involved with the Idaho Financial Literacy Coalition, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing financial education across the state.
Membership in the IFLC is free, rewarding, and yes—fun. Whether your employees are passionate about helping youth, supporting local schools, or leading financial wellness programs for adults, the IFLC offers an open door to make a meaningful impact.
Why It Matters
As IDOF Director Patti Perkins so aptly put it, “We recognize the importance of helping Idaho’s youth develop a financial compass to navigate successfully into adulthood.” Early education on money matters sets the foundation for lifelong financial health, and Idaho’s banking professionals are uniquely positioned to lead the way.
Highlights from This Year’s Financial Literacy Month
One of the signature events is the 15th Annual Piggy Bank Beauty Contest, which inspires creativity and savings habits among students in grades 3–6. Winners receive a $250 scholarship from IDeal – Idaho’s College Savings Program to start their own 529 accounts. It’s an inspiring example of financial literacy in action.
Plus, throughout April, the Department of Finance will release new Insights by IDOF podcast episodes and educational resources—perfect for sharing with your customers and community partners.
