Idaho Bankers Association Joins BankChain Alliance

The Idaho Bankers Association has joined 39 other state bankers associations in announcing the formation of BankChain Alliance, a new industry-owned initiative designed to help banks of all sizes safely offer modern payment and banking services.

The Alliance is developing an industry-designed, industry-governed blockchain network that will give participating financial institutions access to emerging banking capabilities while maintaining the regulatory standards, security and trust customers expect from their banks. Potential uses include smart payment tools, tokenized deposits, stablecoins, automated settlement and other developing technologies.

For Idaho banks, the initiative creates an opportunity to participate in and help shape new banking infrastructure rather than relying solely on technology developed outside the industry. The broader goal is to make these capabilities accessible to institutions of all sizes, including community and regional banks serving local businesses and communities.

BankChain Alliance is currently evaluating technology partners and is targeting a 2027 launch. The network is expected to be interoperable with other networks and will invite ownership participation from banks across the country.

The 38 participating state bankers associations collectively represent thousands of financial institutions nationwide, reflecting a coordinated effort to ensure banks have a role in developing and governing the technology that could shape the future of payments and financial services.
